Probiotics in Health

Probiotics support digestive health in several ways. Their beneficial effects have been attributed to their ability to inhibit the growth of bad bacteria in the gut and to create substances that help fuel and reinforce the barrier defense of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Probiotics work, in part, by forming a protective barrier in the intestinal tract and inhibiting the adhesion of bad bacteria and toxic substances.

Probiotics have been associated with improving the intestine’s immunologic barrier, and alleviating intestinal inflammatory response. Researchers have also reported that the transport of antigens (i.e., foreign invaders) across the gut lining increases in the absence of intestinal microflora. Furthermore, the capacity of the gut-associated immune cells to generate protective immune cells progressively increases with the establishment of the gut microflora.

The genus Bifidobacterium comprises numerous species that are normal inhabitants of the human gut. One of the most commonly found species in the gut is B. longum. B. lactis is the species most often included in functional foods and food supplements.

Probiotics are defined by their genus, species and strain. The ability of a probiotic to be effective has been found to be strain-specific. Multi-strain probiotic supplements provide a broad spectrum of benefits.

Finally a probiotic I feel I can trust.

I have been looking for a probiotic that I felt I could trust forever and I think this is it. Disclaimer: I have not actually started taking it yet so can't comment on any potential benefits yet, but I can say that I use the fish oil supplements they sell and they really work to reduce inflammation. Point is that this company does things right. With every other probiotic I've ever used, I've always wondered if what I was getting really had the potency claimed. Judging by the packaging and the claim of shelf stability of this product, I believe that this product will be every bit as good as their other products and will update after I've had a chance to start taking it.

The best probiotic I've had to date..

I dare say this is the best probiotic I've had to date! I've had MANY! This one I can even credit for a flatter stomach as whatever I ingest, seems to be fully processed and completely digested so things just pass through very smoothly. I'm very pleased. I was happy for the introductory price of $24, now it's up to $34 which is still manageable and well worth it but anything above this will be an uncomfortable stretch..although it is a superior product. I'm not sure what's the difference between this one and all the others I've tried, but I've been searching for a very long time and this is the one.
